Steve Nicol, ESPN pundit, talks about how important Thiago Silva was to Chelsea’s victory over Leicester.
The Blues spent the majority of their game with ten players on the field.
Chelsea got their first goal from Raheem Sterling, which is a relief for both the player and the team.
The Scotland international told ESPN FC that “[Thiago Silva] made them win. The one guy who was playing.”
In the 76th minute, Mendy made a mistake, allowing Barnes to score and almost giving up a goal to 10-strong opposition.
“For the last 20 odd minutes, Leicester threw everything at Chelsea.”
He intercepted at least three to four crosses and opportunities within that 20-minute interval.
“Yes, Sterling got two goals, but without Silva, they wouldn’t have won this game.”
The Brazil international, whose performance also impressed Thomas Tuchel, made five tackles and four clearances in the game.
His 10 out of 11 duel successes are what contributes to two of Leicester’s four blocked shots.
Chelsea will enter a busy part of their season soon, and the manager will have to assess her performance. Chelsea’s player from PSG
Blues have a Koulibaly who’s been playing in the league for 3 years, and a younger Ethan Ampadu.
Thomas Tuchel had a different strategy, playing Ruben Loftus-Cheek and in front of Mount. Both players seemed to dominate the game, and Loftus-Cheek created some great plays on the right side with Havertz.
“I’ve played a lot of positions, but I like to have a close connection to the players,” Havertz said before the game. “I know my number nine part is difficult in England, but I think I did well since the last months. It wasn’t good against Leeds, but I’m working hard and trying to get better every day.”
The game turned out to be not so successful for Sterling. He scored both of the Chelsea’s goals, and his first was deflected shot from the edge of the box.
Build-up play was promising but not enough to provide goalscoring confidence.
